WHAT WE DO
WHAT WE DO
NORFOLK FOUNDATION BELIEVES EFFECTIVE PHILANTHROPY SHOULD BE A DEEPLY COLLABORATIVE ENTERPRISE IN WHICH DONORS AND GRANTEES JOINTLY LEVERAGE THEIR RESOURCES, SKILLS, AND ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF COMMON GOALS. WE EXPECT ALL PROJECTS, INCLUDING THOSE WE ENGAGE IN FOR OURSELVES, TO DEMONSTRATE SUSTAINABILITY BEYOND THE TERMS OF OUR SUPPORT. TO THIS END, WE:
THE TOWN OF NORFOLK IS A COMPLEX COMMUNITY OF OLD FAMILIES AND NEW INCOMERS, YEAR-ROUND RESIDENTS AND SUMMER PEOPLE, AT ONCE COSMOPOLITAN AND WHOLLY REMOVED FROM THE PACE AND RHYTHM OF THE CITY; IT IS A PLACE OF EXTRAORDINARY NATURAL BEAUTY, OF HILLS AND LAKES, OF OLD FORESTS WORKED OVER, CUT DOWN, RENEWED; IT IS A HISTORY DISTINGUISHED BY ITS ARTISTS, WRITERS, AND MUSICIANS. NF WORKS FOR ALL THIS—FOR A NORFOLK THAT BECOMES EVER MORE VITALLY, FULLY, AND SUSTAINABLY ITSELF.
WEEKEND IN NORFOLK
NORFOLK FOUNDATION WAS PROUD TO BE PART OF THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL 1ST AND 2ND ANNUAL WEEKEND IN NORFOLK. IN 2016, RYAN CRAIG WAS ON HAND THROUGHOUT TO WELCOME VISITORS AND RESIDENTS TO A PREVIEW OF THE BERKSHIRE COUNTRY STORE, WHICH SINCE OPENED ON JANUARY 4, 2017, IN THE FOUNDATION’S BUILDING AT 6 STATION PLACE, AND SCHUYLER THOMPSON BROUGHT HIS CANOE BUILDING OPERATION INTO TOWN FOR THE WEEKEND AT 2 STATION PLACE, ALSO ACQUIRED BY THE FOUNDATION AND SOON TO BE REMODELED INTO A CO-WORKING SPACE SHARED BY A RANGE OF NORFOLK’S NONPROFITS. IN 2017, NORFOLK FOUNDATION WAS CO-SPONSOR, ALONG WITH NORFOLK NOW, OF THE HAYSTACK BOOK TALK WITH LOCAL AUTHOR KARIN ROFFMAN AND WILLARD SPIEGELMAN.
NORFOLK FOUNDATION WILL USE MOST OF 2 STATION PLACE – THE FORMER NORFOLK CORNER STORE – FOR THE ORGANIZATION'S MAIN OFFICE AS WELL AS FOR A CO-WORKING AND EXHIBITION SPACE FOR THE TOWN'S NONPROFITS. THESE DESIGNS GIVE SOME INDICATION OF HOW THE SPACE MIGHT BE TRANSFORMED BY SOME LIGHT EXTERIOR REMODELING AND THE CREATION OF AN OPEN AND FLEXIBLE SPACE WITHIN.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO A TOWN THAT REACHES FROM TOWN HALL TO THE MUSIC SHED, FROM THE VILLAGE GREEN TO THE FOOT OF A LIVELY CITY MEADOW; TO A TOWN WHOSE THRIVING PEDESTRIAN RETAIL CENTER OPENS DIRECTLY ONTO YEAR-ROUND RECREATIONAL TRAILS IN ALL DIRECTIONS; AND TO A TOWN THAT IS KNOWN ABOVE ALL FOR THE RICHNESS OF ITS ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL LIFE.
